Dearest Sweetheart:

Just a line to let you know that I'm still going and that no French [illegible] has run off with me.

One of our Lts. expects to leave for home in about a week as he has been classified as unfit for duty. This will leave me only there and one of them has just left for a visit of two weeks in England. I've just taken over the job as mechanical engineer and shall be pretty busy for the next few days.

Dr. [illegible] has just come by to inform me that Mde Lechat, the old lady with whom I lived while waiting for Mde Cloche, had a stroke of [illegible] this morning. Her family is now with her. The doctor has to look up another room, so I took him out to the house this evening to see
