This Indenture made this 28th day of April 1842 between David Hoffman of the County of Amherst, of the First part, Thomas T. Moorman and Joel B. Leftwich, of the County of Campbell of the second, and Mary E. Hoffman, wife of the said David Hoffman of the third part, Witnesseth that, whereas, the said David Hoffman, heretofore by a certain Deed dated the 10th day of April 1840, and duly of record in the County Court of Amherst County: did convey to Charles L. Mosby and Chiswell Dabney of the Town of Lynchburg, among other things, a certain piece or parcel of land, on which the said Hoffman now resides, situate in the said County of Amherst, containing eight and one half acres, and called the Tan Yard place: in Trust to answer certain purposes in said Deed expressed, and which Deed is here referred to, as more fully explaining the object for which it was made:  And in which said Deed the said Mary E. Hoffman, did not join, and consequently made no relinquishment of her Dower Right in the land aforesaid.

Hoffman to relinquish her right of Dower therein upon condition of having conveyed to her use, all her interest in the Estate of her Father Samuel Moorman, deced. as well as all other interest which she may have in the Estate of her deced. Brother William H. Moorman, and which by her intermarriage, with the said David Hoffman have inured to him. Now for and in consideration of her having relinquished her right of Dower in the land aforesaid by Deed bearing the same date with Indenture: as well as for the further consideration of Five Dollars of lawful money to him the said David Hoffman in hand paid by the said Moorman & Leftwich, at and before the sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged he the said David Hoffman hath granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell, alien, enfeoff & confirm unto the said Thomas T. Moorman and Joel B. Leftwich, their heirs, Executors &c. all the right, title, interest, claim and demand, which he the said David Hoffman has in right of his said wife to her portion of the Estate of her Father the said Samuel Moorman, deceased, (which Estate consists of the following to wit, Cyrus, a man aged about Sixty years - Scipio, a man aged about Fifty years - Sam, a man aged about Forty Eight years,
And whereas the said David Hoffman having made the Trust Deed already referred to, for the security of sundry debts bona fide due to creditors therein named, and being desirous of clearing the said Tan Yard Estate from all encumbrance, on account of said Mary E. Hoffman's right of Dower, and it being agreed by the said Mary E. Hoffman to relinquish her right of Dower therein upon condition of having conveyed to her use, all her interest in the Estate of her Father Samuel Moorman, deced. as well as all other interest which she may have in the Estate of her deced.
