Camp near Sutherland depot Va January 21st 1865 My wife and family as I have an opportunity of send[ing] you a letter by Cousin George Richardson I will write you a few lines this evening I want you to here [sic] from me if I cannot here [sic] from you. I have not had but one letter from you since about the 20th of last month I have writen [sic] to you every week I have to James Trent four times but I have not had but one letter from him Since I lef[t] home. I have writen [sic] to several of my neighbors but they do not think enough of me to answer any of my letters it is said that absence conquers love it looks very much so in some cases. why it is that I cannot get a letter from non[e] of my friends I can not tell but
