Total $8,815 00 APPARATUS. The Engines and Hose Carts of the Department are all in first-class condition and ready for all emergencies. The horses are in first-class order, trained and well adapted to the service. HOSE. The Companies are well supplied at present for any emergency, they having been furnished with 500 feet of new Hose each; this very important part of Fire Extinguishing Apparatus should demand the most careful supervision, in anticipation of extraordinary emergencies. I would recommend to the Honorable Council, for the benefit of the citizens of Portsmouth, that there be put in the hands of the firemen such improved implements as have been approved and adopted by Fire Departments of other cities.
