Keen, Baldwin & Co., Richmond Issued An Advertisement
Keen, Baldwin & Co., clothes manufacturers and dealers operating on Main Street in downtown Richmond, issued this circular in 1858 alerting the public to their twenty years of experience in the business, wide selection, competitive prices, and new “large, well lighted and conveniently arranged Sales=Rooms.” A few years down the road in the second year of the U.S. Civil War, these large attractive rooms caught the attention of the Confederate Army, which evicted the proprietors and commissioned the building for use as a hospital for wounded soldiers.
