VTRC Hosted a Peer Exchange Conference
From August 29 through September 1, 2004, the Virginia Transportation Research Council (VTRC), a cooperative organization sponsored jointly by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the University of Virginia, hosted a peer review conference. Transportation officials, state research managers and Federal Highway Administration, university, and industry personnel from South Dakota, Louisiana, California, and Florida reviewed Virginia's transportation policies. To be eligible for certain federal funds for transportation, a state must agree to a peer review of its transportation management process with regard to research, development, and technology transfer efforts. The intent of the regulation was to strengthen weak programs and enhance strong programs with a sharing of ideas.
