Barbee's X Road Tavern of Fauquier County Was Surveyed

This report describing a house in Fauquier County is a part of the Federal Works Progress Administration's Virginia Historical Inventory project. The program strove to inventory the vernacular architecture and history of buildings constructed before 1860. Many reports, such as this one, included photographs of the building, in some cases providing the only extant visual record for structures that no longer exist. VHI researchers also wrote reports on cemeteries, antiques, historical events, and people, and included transcriptions of land grants, wills, deeds, diaries, and correspondence. As of the present the building that once operated as Barbee's Tavern still stood at the intersection of Route 688 and Route 635.
