The Chapel-in-the-Woods Caught Fire

The Chapel-in-the-Woods, in Newport News, was an interdenominational chapel on the grounds of Camp Patrick Henry during World War II. Faulty wiring caused the fire, but the flames were extinguished in time to save the building. For a time, church services were held outdoors, but the chapel was back in use by December 1944. The decommissioned army base where the church was located is currently the site of the Newport News–Williamsburg International Airport.
