William McGhee Purchased a Slave Named Mary

William Hudnall (1778–1844) married Nancy Williams Nance (1776–1852) in 1804 in Bedford County. She was the widow of Archibald Nance, who had died in 1802. On September 23, 1837, the Hudnalls sold an enslaved African American named Mary by this bill of sale for the sum of $125.00. The sale of Mary was valid for only Nancy Hudnall's lifetime. After Nancy Hudnall's death Mary was to be passed to the children of Nancy Hudnall's former husband.
