Oct 6th 1855 This day personally appeared before me--a commissioner in chancery of the circuit Court of Halifax County James Medley and made oath that Samuel one of the negroes emancipated by the will of Philip E. Vass dec'd being one of the dower negroes held by the mother of said Philip E. Vass as dower in the estate of her husband--Philip Vass dec'd is dead and that Mary--one of the negroes emancipated in like manner by the said Philip E Vass as he is informed and believes--is also dead and that she would if now living be about sixty years of age.
