Know all men by these presents, that we Henry Showalter Robert M Harper are held and firmly bound unto Anderson McCormack in the sum of two thousand dollars current money of the United States, to the payment whereof well and truly to be made to the said Anderson McComack his heirs or assigns we bind ourselves and each of us, our and each or our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this 5th day of February 1840. The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas the Judge of the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery for the county of Franklin, on the petition of the above named Anderson McCormack hath awarded to the said Anderson McCormack the Commonwealth Writ of Ne Exeat to prevent and inhibit the above bound Henry Showalter and Joseph Showalter from removing beyond the limits of the Commonwealth of Virginia, a negro woman slave named Matilda, and her six children, now in the possession of the said Henry Showalter and Joseph Showalter, or permitting the said slaves to be removed by others, until the further order of the said court. Now if the said Henry Showalter and Joseph Showalter shall not remove the said negro woman slave Matilda and her six children beyond the limits of the said Commonwealth, nor permit them to be removed by others, until the further order of the said Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery, then this obligation to be void, else to remain in full force and virtue. Signed, Sealed, & Delivered in presence of L H Powell
