This Indenture made this 3d day of Octobr 1699 betweene ye justices of the Peace for Cha: Citty County and Mary Lilly an orphan of the one parte and Jno Harwood of the said county on the other parte wittnesseth that the said justices pursuant to their Ordr in Court dated at Westover Septr ye 15th 1699 have put placed and bound the said orphan apprentice to ye said Harwood with him to dwell abide & serve from ye day of the date hereof untill she come to lawfull age and ye sd apprentice shall well and faithfully serve the sd Harwood in all lawfull imployments according to her ability and shall honestly and ordrly behave herselfe towards her said mastr and his family and the sd Harwood doth for himselfe his heirs executors and administrs covenant and promise to and with the said justices and particularly with Mr Richd
and Mary Lilly an orphan of the one parte and Jn Harwood of the said county on the other part -

Bland his executors and administrs in ye penall sume of ten thousand pounds of tobacco to instruct the sd orphan or cause her to be instructed to read English and learne the Lords prayer ye creed and ten commandts by heart and to find and allow her convenient meate drink lodging and apparell and to enquire require recover pserve and keepe such estate as doth belong to ye said orphan and to render the same to her at the end of the said time with a cow and a calfe and a breeding sow three barrills of corne and double apparell in witness whereof the partys to these prsents have interchangeably set their hands the day and year first above written

In the name of God amen the ninth day of June Anno Domini 1699 I James Hall of the parish of Bristol in Charles City County being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect memory grace be given to God for the same and knowing the uncertainty of this life on Earth and being desirous to settle things in Ord. Do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is today first and principally I command my soul to Almighty God my Creator assuredly believing that I shall receive full pardon and free remission of my sins and be saved by the precious death and merits of my Blessed Saviour and Redeemer Christ Jesus and my body to the Earth from whence it was beckon to be buried in such decent and Xfian (?) manner as to my Executor hereafter named shall be thought meet and convenient and as touching such worldly Estate as the Lord in mercy hath lent me my Will and meaning is the same shall be imployed and bestowed as hereafter by this will is expressed and first I do revoke renounce frustrate and make voyd all wills by me formerly made and declare and appoint this my last will and testament Imprimis - my will and desire is that all my debts and funeral expenses be fully satisfyed and payd by my executor. hereafter named whom I give desire and bequeath unto my beloved wife and servant boy Willis and also a feather bed bolst rug and blankets my old horse one Cow and her third of my land according as the law provides in that be half and if it shall happen it to please God she dies during the said boy Willis bondage that him and in that case he shall become new unto my son Isaac Hall whom I give and bequeath unto my grandson James Hall son of Instance Hall by Indian field whereon my son Instance now dwelleth along the south line formerly called and known by the name of Sam Woodwards line and never to go out of my name of Halls lawfully extracted from my Copnes. Whom I give devise and bequeath unto my son Isaac Hall all land from Indian field to Mr Bollings line which is a land and plantation I now live upon and never to be purpose by any but by those of my name and extraction whom I give and bequeath between my two sons Instance and Isaac Hall seventy acres of land situated lying and going and being near land Dan. Sturdinvants to be equally dvided between my heirs and heirs alike and ever hereafter to be propose by lawful heirs of their boys whom I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary a heifer named Lilly and unto my daughter Frances a steer that's now two years old whom I give and bequeath unto my son Isaac my young Lord a feather bed bolster rug and blankets and one Cow item (?) give and bequeath unto my two daughters Jane and Katherine each of them a feather bed bolster rug and blankets and one cow apiece whom I give and bequeath all the rest and residual of my personal estate between my wife my son Isaac and my two daughters Jane and Katherine in moveables and immoveables to be equally divided between them share and share alike whom my will and define is that all my debts and funeral expenses be fully satisfied and payed by my executor hereafter named out of the Cropp is now arising growing and coming in land upon the plantation where I now dwell and lastly I nominate and appoint my son Instance Hall full and to be executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal the day and year first within written
