To the Honbl [honorable] C.W. Hill Judge of the Court of Hustings for the City of Portsmouth Your petitioner Peter Smith a native of Holland respectfully represents that I entered the naval service of the United States in November 10th 1861 & was honorably discharged therefrom the 11 Nov 1864 that is was at the time he enlisted and now is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States and now presents this his petition to the Court and prays to be permitted to become a citizen of the United States in pursuance of the [illegible] of Congress entitled "an act to define the hay and annulment of Certain Officers and for other purpose," paper 17 July [1863].
