To the Honbl [honorable] C.W. Hill Judge of the Court of Hustings for the City of Portsmouth Your petitioner Peter Smith a native of Holland respectfully represents that I entered the naval service of the United States in November 10th 1861 & was honorably discharged therefrom the 11 Nov 1864 that is was at the time he enlisted and now is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States and now presents this his petition to the Court and prays to be permitted to become a citizen of the United States in pursuance of the Act of Congress entitled "an act to define the pay and annulment of Certain Officers and for other purposes," paper 17 July 1862. And your petitioner will ever pray &c. Peter Smith
