and 4 Negroe slaves Named Daniel, Dick, Tom, & Gibb, were Sold by Virtue of an inquisition of Eschater, & purchased for and now possessed by the State & divers other Lands & Slaves, purchased by Citizens of this CommonWealth, so that your petitioner is at present much reduced in his Circumstances, & excluded from the rights of Citizenship in this Commonwealth, But your petitioner humbly hopes that having always supported the Character of a peaceable Man been long determined to spend his life in Virginia and not ineligible by any Law made during his residence, or as he humbly conceives by the Spirit of any Act of Assembly passed since; having left the State at a time he might with propriety do so, with afixed determination to return and instituted a place among the Citizens of this Commonwealth had he not been obliged by unavoidable accident to leave the Same for a time, which business a lone required. That this Honourable House will be pleased to permit him to take the Oaths required by Law, be admitted to the rights of Citizenship, and a restoration of his property, so far as to the Wisdom & Justice of this House Shall seem Meet, and your petioner as in Duty bound shall ever pray & c.a
