This Indenture made this 8th day of February one Thousand eight hunred & thirty eight between Edward Wal- ton & John [Ganoff?] overseers of the Poor for district No. one in the county of Cumberland of the one part & Saml Hudson of the said county of the other part [Witneseth.?] That the said Edward Walton & John Garnatt, overseers of the poor aforesaid, by Virtue of an order of the courts of the County a- foresaid, hearing date February 1837, have [just?] & [illegible], one by these presents do place & bind John Jenkins a poor boy of color son of Jenny Jenkins a woman of color of the age of five years the 12th day of January 1838, born 12th January 1833 to be an apprentice with him the said Saml. Hudson, to dwell from the date of these [presents?], in which the said John Jenkins shall come to the age of twenty one years, according to the act of the Gen'l Assembly in that case made and reca- lled. By and during all which Time the said John Jenkins shall the said Saml. Hudson his Master will faithfully serve, in all [illegible] lawful business as the said John Jenkins shall be put unto by his said Master, according to the power & ability of him the said John Jenkins, & honestly & obediently in all things shall be have himself towards his said Master and honestly & orderly towards the rest of the fam ily of said Saml Windsor, And the said Saml Windsor for his part, for himself his heirs & [illegible] hereby covenants to & with the said overseers of the Poor, and every of them & theirs [ancestors?] for the time being, & to and with the said John Jenkins, that he the said Saml Windsor shall the said John in the art & [Ministery?] & occupation of a farmer which he the said Sam'l Windsor is now engaged in, inform and instill to the best of his ability , & the capacity of said John Jenkins.
