Rockingham County July Court 1844. Ordered that the overseers of the poor bind John H. Hurly a free boy of Colour to Silas Hinton to learn the farming business who was 12 years old in January last, (as directed by Law) the said Silas Hinton appeared in Court, and agreed to pay for said boy $100, that is to say, to the overseers of the poor of this County or their agent $5 when he arrives to the age of 14 years and $7.50 cts when 15 years of age $10 when 16 years of age, $12.50 cents when 17 years of age. $15 when 18 years of age, $15 when 19 years of age, $15 when 20 years of age and $20. to said Jno H. Hurly when he shall arrive at the age of Twenty one years[.] Teste H J. Gambill CRC
