February Twelfth, Nineteen Eighteen. Mr. Wyndham R. Merredith, Richmond, Virginia. Dear Sir: I received, this morning, your letter of the 11th inst. with reference to Senate Bill No. 230, and am writing to state that I cannot approve of this Bill. It seems to me that it is an opening wedge for co-ordinate education or co-education, and if once women are admitted to the University of Virginia, it will be impossible for such a law to be repealed. I have considered this matter long and carefully during the past four years, and am thoroughly convinced that the University should remain as it is, that is, so far as the parties who are to be educated there are concerned. Your very truly, W. W. Old Jr.
