Commonwealth of Virginia Senate Chamber Richmond, Va. R. K. Brock 28th Senatorial District Farmville, VA. January, 12, 1914. Miss. Estell Smithey, Pres. Equal Suffrage League, Farmville, Va. Dear Miss. Smithey: I am just in receipt of yours of the 10th. inst. regarding the introduction of a joint resolution to submit to the qualified voters of the State an amendment to the Constitution granting the right of suffrage to women. I shall be perfectly frank and say that I am opposed to equal suffrage for women to the submission of the question to the qualified voters end that therefore I will vote against such a resolution if introduced at the approaching session. I will state, however, that I believe regardless of my opposition and that of others that it is only a matter of a few years before Virginia will fall into line with states further West on this question. Very truly yours, Ruth Brock
