This Indenture, made the 28th day of Septr [September] in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty three between OVERSEERS OF THE POOR of the County of Accomack, of the one part, and Isaiah N Bagwell of the said County of Accomack of the other part, witnesseth: That the said Edmund R Allen Overseers of the Poor as aforesaid, acting with the allowance and approbation of the County Court of Accomack County, and in pursuance of an order of the said Court to that effect, made and entered on the 26th day of Septr one thousand eight hundred and fifty three have put and bound, and do by these presents put and bind Sabra  Dennis of the said County, (who has to be provided for and assisted by the Overseers of the said County,) and being of the age of seven years to be apprentice to the said Isaiah N Bagwell to learn the trade, business and art of a house servant and with him to dwell and remain and serve until she the said Sabra  Dennis shall attain to the full age of Eighteen years, during all which time he the said Isaiah N Bagwell [her] master faithfully serve and obey, his secrets keep and his lawful commands willingly do and shall perform, and shall not absent herself from the service of her said master, day or night, without his leave, but shall in all things as a faithful apprentice behave herself towards her master and all his family during the said term. And the said Isaiah N Bagwell in consideration of the faithful service to be performed by the said Sabra Dennis doth hereby covenant, promise and agree with the said Overseers and their successors in office, that he the said Isaiah N Bagwell his said apprentice the duties of a house servant which he now useth, shall and will teach and instruct, or cause to be taught and instructed in the best manner that he can, and shall and will provide and allow unto the said apprentice, during all the said term, competent and sufficient meat, drink, washing, lodging, apparel and all other things necessary for the said apprentice. And whereas the said County Court, by the order aforesaid, did direct that the said Isaiah N Bagwell for the services of the said apprentice should pay one third thereof to be paid annually to Sam Sample FN [Free Negro] the father of the said apprentice and the remaining two thirds thereof to the said apprentice, to wit five dollars for her services for the year in which she arrives to the age of thirteen years the same sum for the next year, Eight dollars for the next,  ten dollars for the next[,] Twelve dollars for the next and fifteen dollars for the services of the apprentice for the year wherein she arrives at the full age aforesaid.the said [blank] doth hereby also covenant and agree to and with the said Overseers of the Poor and their  successors in office, that he shall and will well and truly pay the said sums of money to the said Overseers of the Poor and their successors in office, for the use and objects specified in the said order.

In witness whereof, the said Overseers of the Poor and the said Isaiah N Bagwell have hereunto interchangeably set their hands and affixed their seals, this 28th day of Sept one thousand eight hundred and fifty three[.]
