Know all men by these presents, that we William S Northen and Robert B. Sydnor are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Virginia - in the just and full sum of Eighty ~ Dollars, to which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs executors and administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents, Given under our hands and seals this 4th day of February 1850 ~ The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the Overseers of the Poor of the County of Richmond have bound to the above bound William S Northen - a free negro Girl named Mary Burwell of the age of seven years, daughter of Mary Burwell ~ to be an apprentice with him the said William S Northen until she the said Mary shall attain the age twenty years - Now if the above bound William S Northen shall pay to the said Mary Burwell ~ mother of the said Mary the sum of five Dollars per annum - from and after the said Mary Burwell shall have attained the age of fourteen - years - until she arrives to the age of twenty one years - Then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force and virtue Wm S Northen (Seal) Robt: B.
