3. slave for life, and that the complainants have no claim to her in any form whatsoever. This defendant for further defence in this behalf relies on the statute of limitations in such case made and provided as a bar to any pretended claim or demand on behalf the complainants to said slave. And having now answered this defendant prays to be herein dismissed the court with his reasonable costs in this behalf expended, & he will ever pray &c. Joseph Bruin. Alexandria County to wit Joseph Bruin personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the peace in & for the County aforesaid and made oath in due form of law that the facts stated in the foregoing answer so far as they depend on his own knowledge are true and so far as they are derived from the information of others he believes to be true.
