This Indenture made and entered into this 10th day of August in the year One thousand eight hundred and forty four by and between John Rosser of the County of Campbell of the first part Charles R. Slaughter of the town on Lynchburg of the second part and Samuel Garland executor of John A Rowan of the town of Lynchburg of the third and last part. Witnesseth that whereas the said John Rosser with four other persons his securities are Justly indebted to said Garland Executor as aforesaid in the sum of eight thousand dollars evidenced by bond of this date and it being the object and intention of the said Rosser at the same time more effectually to secure the said debt as well as to endemnify and save harmless his four securities against loss by their friendly undertaking. Now to that end and for and in consideration of the sum of Ten dollars to the said Rosser in hand paid by the said Garland executor as aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivery of this Indenture the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the said Rosser hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Charles A Slaughter and his heirs forever all the following lands and personal estate to Wit: The tract of land purchased of Armistead Long and Wife containing five hundred and sixty Acres more or less as per Long and Wife deed of Record in the Clerks Office of the County Court of Campbell and another adjoining tract of land bought of John Petticrew and Wife as per deed of Record as above Containing one hundred and eleven acres more or less by Cheathams survey, another tract purchased of Josiah Shepperson Commissioner in the Chancery suit of Culler v Crallin's heirs as per Sheppersons deed of record as above containing about two hundred and fifty acres more or less and the following slaves Viz: Abram thirty years old and Celia his wife about the same age and their six children named Matilda Maria Harriat Anderson Louisa and an infant, name Not remembered eight in number Abrams family: Vicey about thirty and all her children: Viz. Susan Glenn Filler Charles and an other name not remembered
