Know all men by these presents that we Anderson McCormick Charles B Reynolds and Jubal A Early, are held and firmly bound unto John A Smith Sheriff of Franklin, and as such Administrator de bonis non of William McCormick Dec'd Melchizideck Earl, Otey Hopkins, Stephen Showalter Administrator of Henry Showalter deceased and Joseph Showalter in the Just and full sum of two hundred dollars for the payment whereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs to jointly severally firmly by these presents. Sealed with our Seals and dated this 6th day of October 1856. The Condition of the above Obligation is such that whereas the Clerk of the District Court for the Second Judicial District at Lynchburg has issued a Writ of Supersedeas in the name of the Commonwealth to the Sheriff of Franklin County directed. Commanding the said Sheriff that from all further proceedings on two decrees of the Circuit Court of Halifax County, pronounced on the 12th day of May 1855 and on the 13th day of May 1856 in two suits in Chancery, in one of which John A Smith Sheriff of Franklin and as such Administrator de bonis non of William McCormick Dec'd was plaintiff and Anderson McCormick, Melchizideck Early and Otey Hopkins were Defendants. And in the other of which a Cross Bill where in Anderson McCormcik was plaintiff and the said John A Smith Sheriff of Franklin and as such Administrator de bonis non of William McCormick Dec'd Stephen Showalter Administrator of Henry Showalter Deceased and Joseph Showalter were defendants, he should altogether supersede, but on the said writ the Clerk of the said District Court has endorsed that it is not to be effectual until he the said Anderson McCormick (the petitioner) shall enter into bond with sufficient Security in the Clerks Office of the Circuit Court of Halifax County in the penalty of Two hundred dollars. And a Certificate of the Execution thereof with the names of the Security shall be endorsed thereon by the Clerk of the said Court. Now if the said Anderson McCormick his Executors or Administrators shall prosecute the said writ with affect or shall well and truly abide by and perform the decrees aforesaid of the said Circuit Court of Halifax County and also pay all such Costs and damages as shall be awarded against him
