The deposition of William M Cabaniss taken in the clerks office of Halifax County on the 10 day of Sept. 1849 according to notice to be read as evidence in a suit now pending in the Circuit Superior Court of Law & Chancery for the County of Halifax in which John R Bennett & Eliza M his wife as admrs. of Abner C Shelton are plaintiffs and Francis L. Royall is defendant This deponent being first sworn according to law deposes and says - That the book exhibited marked on the back "Negro Trade book Commenced in Virginia March 1st 1836" with a X underneath, has a receipt dated 1st March 1836 for Twenty two hundred & thirty three Dollars and seventy five Cents, and also Two hundred & nine Dollars to Wm Royall is signed in the hand writing of Mrs Eliza M Shelton now Mrs Eliza M Bennett.
