Negroe Poll & in consequence thereof brought her into this County in the month of Decr. 1806, a few months after the law on the subject commenced its operation. That the sd. Esther Looney at the time, as Petr. is informed & believe was ignorant of the extremes of such a loss. These facts your Petr. will be able to prove to the satisfaction of this Hon'ble. body. He protests most solomny [solemnly] against a previous knowledge, that the removal of the sd. slave into this state, was inhibited by the laws & under these circumstances your Petr. would humbly hope that the Legislature will afford him relief by empowering him to hold the sd. slave in this Com'lth. & exempt the importer from any fines, penalty or forfeitures incurred by reason of the importation. He will ever pray &c
