This Indenture made and entered into this 4th day of Jun in the year of Our Lord one Thousand and eight hundred and fourteen between Archelaus Gilliam of the first part James Russell of the second part and John Hay of the third part all of the County of Campbell & state of Virginia, Witnesseth that Whereas the said Archelaus Gilliam is Justly indebted to the aforesaid James Russell in the sum of Four hundred and Eighty Dollars Current money due and payable by bond on the 13th day of June 1815 and the said Archelaus Gilliam being willing to secure the payment of said sum of money to the said James Russell his heirs or assigns as well as for the further Consideration of the sum of One Dollar to him in hand paid by the said John Hay the receipt of which he doth hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said John Hay and to his heirs and assigns for ever the following negroes to wit One negroe man named Peter one negroe woman named Diner Peters wife of whom the said Gilliam purchased of Achilles V Moorman also One horse two mares three feather beds with their furniture One Yoke of Steers and One Cuppoard To have and to Hold the aforesaid Slaves and other personal property hereby described as aforesaid unto the said John
