Mr R T M Dix Trustee in a certain deed of trust executed by Lewis H Dix for the purpose of indemnifying and secureing [sic] Wm Henderson & Thomas B Payne his servants for his Guardianship of Virginia C and Thomas N Kerns orphans of John Kerns which said deed conveys Negro woman Matilda and her two children Joe & Ben & the future increase of the said woman Matilda & which was admitted to record on the 18th of July 1855.

Sir    You will please after satisfying the provisions of the deed of Trust aforesaid pay any balance arising from the said Slaves to Benjamin Waddy & Samuel Downing for the purpose of indemnifying and secureing them as my securities in a certain bond held by Mrs Dunton including interest to this day to the amt of about Five Hundred Dollars.  Given under my hand & Seal this 18th day of September 1855
