This indenture made this 20th Day of October in the year of our Lord 1857 between James R Stephens of the first part, John D Glascock, of the second part and Joseph G Stephens & Bidkar George of the third part: Whereas the said James R Stephens is justly indebted to John Chowning in the sum of five hundred dollars as by bond bearing date the 25th day of September 1850 more fully appears; which debt with the legal interest thereon accruing the said James R Stephens is willing & desirous to secure the said Joseph G Stephens & Bidkar George from the payment of the said bond of five hundred dollars on the securities thereto - Now this indenture Witnesseth that for and in consideration of one dollar of Lawful money of Virginia to the said James R Stephens in hand paid by the said John D Glascock, at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the said James R Stephens hath given granted bargained and sold, and by these presents doth give grant bargain & sell to the said John D Glascock his heirs & assigns forever the following slaves, to wit, Negroe woman Louisa & her child Simon & the future increase of the said woman Louisa, and all the right title and interest of the said James R Stephens in and to the said woman Louisa and child Simon, To have & to hold the aforesaid slaves and the future increase of the woman Louisa unto the said John D Glascock, his heirs executors administrators & assigns for ever. to the only use of the said John D Glascock his heirs executors administrators, & assigns forever: And the said James R Stephens for himself his heirs executors & administrators doth hereby covenant and agree to and with the said John D Glascock his heirs exors admors & assigns for ever in manner & form following that is to say, that the said James R Stephens his heirs exors & admors the aforesaid slave
