It is still bitterly cold here and the hotel has not central heating on and no fire in the lounge during the daytime. Thank goodness we have bedroom gas fires. The gas strike is over but there isn't much pressure behind the gas yet. We read that it will take a week to get the gas supply back to normal.

Today Mummie is attending an important conservative meeting in town- lasts all day- W. Churchill is attending and is going to speak this morning. I am going to write mom today- she sent me a lovely Xmas parcel containing two pairs of silk stockings- a marvellous fruit cake-a little pair of pink bootees for our baby- and a powder mit, a most intriguing article. I've never seen one before. I'm so thrilled with all these presents- such lovely things.
