The affidavit of Bedford Davenport than this 18 Augst 1814 at Halifax Co Ho by Consent of Parties to be read as evidence in a certain matter of Controversy pending in Halifax Court Chancery wherein Edward Carrington & others are Complainants and Isaac Coles admr of Isaac H Coles Dec'd & others are Defendants, being of lawfull age & first duly Sworn Deposeth & Saith, that Big John, Ben Bates Black Dublin, Henry & Frank resided on the Dan River estate & I consider that there home & my reasons for & believing I have often heard the Testator Mr. I Coles say that when his Carpenters who were his chief Ditchers returned home from Staunton that he intended to have such & Such work Done, Dublin a Blacksmith resided on Dan River estate his wife lives there, & he sometimes works in the Crop when nothing to Do in the Shop & Mr. Coles Testator called that his home, Glascow, a Shoemaker, also belongs there, sometimes [illegible] Aron, taken from Dan River & put to work, with a Shoemaker, as apprentice, and his period of Service nearly expired as well as I remember, Peter & Lewis, the former, Hostler, the latter House Servant, I have ocassionally at work in the Garden & Peter sometimes Cuting Hay - Isaac a Waggoner, Waggon & Team belong to the Dan River estate & I think I have seen him at work on the Plantation.
