THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA To any Gentlemen Justice of Halifax County, North Carolina Greeting: Know ye, that we, trusting your fidelity and provident circumspection, in diligently examining Robert Southall [& oths?] witnesses as well on behalf of Bathirst Crawley Plaintiff as William B. Crawley adm Defendant in a suit now depending in the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery for the County of Halifax, command you that at such certain day and place as you shall appoint, you call and cause to come the witness aforesaid, before you, and them diligently examine on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God, and their examination unto our said Court, distinct and plainly, without delay, you send and certify enclosed, returning also to us this writ. Witness, WILLIAM HOLT, Clerk of our said Court, this 10 day of June 1848, in the 72 year of the Commonwealth.
