In pursuance of a decree of the Circuit Court of Halifax made at May Court 1854 in the case of "Carlton &c vs. Hart's admr &c" the admin'r. of Elizabeth Hart delivered to us the slaves alluded to in said decree, which were eight in number, and which we valued as follows: Alcey, a woman about 55 years of age, at $250.00 Phil, a man " 50 " " " 400.00 Jack " " 23 " " 800.00 Edmund " " 21 " " 800.00 Churchwell a boy " 16 " " 775.00 Fanny, a girl " 14 " " 650.00 Ellick, a lad, " 9 " " 500 $4175.00 Katey, an old woman we regarded a charge to the amt. of 175.00 $4000.00 It being manifest to us that a division in kind could not be made, as there were not as many slaves as distributees, we, after advertising the sale as directed, sold them at Halifax Court House, at public auction, on Court Day, as follows: Alcey to Wm.
