To All whom it may concern know ye that I James Poulson of the County of Accomack and state of Virginia, being impressed with a desire to do justice; and as I solemnly believe I cannot do justice without liberating all my Slaves. I do therefore manumit, liberate and set free all my slaves, hereinafter mentioned with their future increase, after the different periods and upon the conditions herein mentioned to wit, Easter to be free on the first day of January One thousand Eight hundred & six. Sam to be free on the first day of January One thousand Eight hundred & nine. Betty to be free on the first day of January One thousand Eight hundred & Ten. Nelson & Leah to be free on the first day of January One thousand Eight hundred & Twenty[.] Jacob & Arthur to be free on the first day of January One thousand Eight hundred & Twenty three[.] Elijah & Levin to be free on the first day of January One thousand Eight hundred & Twenty five. Agness to be free on the first day of January One thousand Eight hundred & Twenty seven. I hereby release the said negros, Easter, Sam, Betty, Nelson, Leah, Jacob, Arthur, Elijah, Levin & Agness with their future increase, after the several periods above mentioned from all claim as Slaves to my self my heirs Executors and administrators or any other person claiming, by them, or under me. And having lately purchased of James Stewart two thirds of a negro man called Jingo, with an intimation of holding the same no longer than by the services of said negro I might be reimbursed & it having been considered that six years services from the first day of January last would indemnify me for the purchase money, I do therefore manumit liberate and set free the said negroe Jingo so far as my interest in him will authorise me, reserving to myself my heirs Executors & Admr. the right only to his services for the six years afforesaid, that is to say untill the first day of January One thousand Eight hundred and Eleven no longer.
