At a court of [Oyer?] and [Termines] held at Bedford Courthouse the 16th day of August 1822 for the trial of Plato a Negroe Man slave the property of William Milner indicated for having on the 2nd of this instant  feloniously unlawfully and of his malice aforethought murder on a negroe [Moman?] slave named Edy the property of said William Milner Present Isaac [Olay?] Thomas Cale Pleasant M [[illegible] Mitchell Ewing and Jacob [illegible] [Gent?] [illegible] [illegible] = The prisoner being led to the bar in custody of the Sailor William Cook esquire appeared as council for the prisoner being appeared of by the court and [illegible] [illegible] sale esquire as prosecuter for the Common Wealth P. H. [Gilmer?] [illegible] the attornery for the Common Wealth being absent who being arraigned plead not guilty whereupon the court proceeded to the examination of the witnesses and the prisoner heard in his defense on consideration thereof it is the opinion of the court that he is guilty of the felony aforesaid and that for the same he shall hung by the neck til he be dead. Dead, dead, and that he be taken back to the jail and there safely kept till the 21st day of september next and that the sheriff do on that day between the hours of twelve o clock and three convey him to the gallows and execute the sentence aforesaid. It is the opinion of the court that the said negroe slave Plato is [illegible] [illegible] of the value of five hundred dollars
