Know all men by these presents that I Benjamin Lillard of the State of Virginia and County of Rappahannock do hereby constitutes and appoints Jeremiah B. [Teter?] of the City of Richmond my true and lawful attorney for me and in my name to receive from the auditor of public accounts a warrant upon the treasurer of Virginia for six hundred and fifty dollars the amount due me for negro Ben Puller who was found guilty of murder by the County Court of Frederick and sentenced to be hung on Friday the 28th of the present month. Witness my hand and seal the 20th day of December 1838. Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Marcus Cooper. Benjamin Lillard [?]

Culpepper County to wit. Be it known that on the 20th day of December 1838 before me a justice of the peace for the county aforesaid personally appeared Benjamin Lillard [avow?] named and acknowledged the foregoing power of attorney to be his act and deed. Given under my hand and seal this 20th day of December 1838. Geo Ficklen
