Portsmouth, Va, July 15th, 1902.

To the Hon. J. THOMPSON BAIRD, Mayor:

SIR: - In reply to your communication of the 2nd instant, I have the honor of submitting to you the annual report of the business transactions of the market, for the year ending June 30th, 1902.

The following is the amount of revenue from the market; Two thousand and thirty dollars and thirty-fie cents, ($2,030.35.)

The market is in a good sanitary condition.

DEAR SIR: - In compliance with your request, I beg to report the following transactions of my office for the year ending June 30th, 1902.

The completion of an official map of the old four wards of the city.

During the year sixty-seven lots have been surveyed for the purpose of erecting new buildings, etc.

Three hundred and twenty eight separate house connections have been made to the sewerage system, making a total of twenty-three hundred and eleven to date.

Two hundred and ten feet of main pipe have been added to the sewerage at the north end of Court Street; and, in the various streets of the city, fourteen hundred and seventeen feet of house laterals have been laid.

In the Fifth Ward, four miles and one-half of granite curbing and gutters have been set and paved.
